Kalkan Restaurants
It is said that there are well over a hundred superb restaurants in Kalkan, more per square metre than anywhere on the Turkish coast. The many roof terrace and harbour side restaurants are certainly renowned for their quality cooking and presentation, fresh food and a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Dining in Kalkan could be described as casual sophistication with an authentic ambience. There are traditional well cooked Turkish favourites but also a range and style of cooking with a wider Mediterranean influence. There are no international quick food outlets.

The highlight of any evening must surely be enjoying a superb, reasonably priced meal by candlelight while admiring the view out to sea on a balmy Mediterranean terrace. Dinner usually starts around 6.00 o'clock but the majority choose to start their meal at around 7.30-8.30 and are still by their table enjoying complimentary after dinner drinks late into the night.

It is tempting to stay with your favourite restaurants but trying somewhere different should be part of the fun. As with all restaurants, a few bottles of wine do make a considerable difference to the total price of the meal. Reasonable 'Angora' Turkish white or red wine can be enjoyed for around £8 a bottle, others are more expensive.
Restaurant Locations
The map below shows the location of some of the restaurants in Kalkan:
These restaurants are on average a 10-15 minute walk from Yesil Kaya, 5 minutes by car or taxi.
Restaurant Directory
The following are merely suggestions, some of our favourites and some recommended by our guests, but there are so many more that we have not been to as yet which are probably just as good. The restaurants are not listed in any particular order. Although every effort is made to be accurate we cannot guarantee that all the details are correct.

The quality of their menus and their friendly, relaxed atmosphere is excelled only by their superb presentation.

Very highly ratedElegant dining
Meat casserole speciality worth tryingExcellent steak
Kosk is given a very high rating by ourselves and by many other visitors to Kalkan. It is an elegant, well established restaurant, clean and airy, above and overlooking the street in the heart of the old town. As it's large, it never seems full even though most of the tables are always taken.

The complimentary freshly cooked pide bread with various dips is excellent. But it is the speciality of the house that is the star of the show which is a meat casserole in a flaming sealed clay pot. The lamb and chicken casserole itself is good, and there is a lot of excitement accompanying its presentation. It is brought to the table sealed in a flaming clay pot which is cracked and chiselled at in front of many pairs of inquisitive eyes to reveal the delicious casserole. This dish is a certain attention seeker - bring your camera!

The melt in your mouth Chateaubriand steak is very highly praised and the huge Tiger prawns peeled at the table for you by the obliging waiters are expensive but beautiful. Kosk is one of the few restaurants that continue to serve complimentary Amaretto at the end of the meal, or perhaps a complimentary cocktail on special occasions.

Birthdays are always a lively occasion at the Kosk. If you notify the staff as you go in, you have the option of ordering a personalised cake for around £8. At the end of the meal, the person having a birthday will have a lovely surprise. All the lights are dimmed and all the guests have been given sparklers to light, fireworks go off by the bar and the staff carry the cake, sparklers alight, to the table to the sound of 'happy birthday'. The cake, usually a sponge, is usually shared amongst all the diners at the restaurant at your request, but there is plenty left if you feel like taking some home. Not cheap, but a lovely photo opportunity, we usually celebrate one genuine or belated birthday each year, especially if there are children with us.

Food is superbFusion cooking of the highest standard
Imaginative menuOne of our favourite restaurants
Zekis is completely alfresco as you eat out on the street, a very quaint, contained, multi levelled, traffic-free after 7 o'clock kind of street (although there are a few tables inside). The tables are beautifully laid out and the food is superb. The proprietors are Paula and Metin Keskin. Metin is Turkish and completed his training as a chef in the United Kingdom, Paula is English.

Excellent BBQ on Wednesday nightBooking recommended
Many facilities at hotelFantastic views of Kalkan
There are drinks and snacks available in the Beach Bar Restaurant by the sea all day and lunch is reasonable. Evening meals can be enjoyed either on the Rooftop Restaurant terrace of the Villa Mahal Hotel (around 20 steps only from the road) or in the Beach Bar Restaurant overlooking the sea (around 180 steps from the road). Booking is recommended for the rooftop terrace restaurant where you can wonder at the panoramic view of the bay and the twinkling lights of Kalkan bay. While in the Beach Bar restaurant you can dine under the straw covered pergola or under the olive trees while lanterns swaying in the gentle breeze is atmospheric and very pleasant.
