So where exactly is Yesil Kaya? As you might have guessed, it is in Kalkan - on the south coast of Turkey.

Turkey is a large country, stretching from Greece in the west to Syria in the east. Kalkan is located on the south coast of Turkey on the Mediterranean Sea. The nearest airports are Dalaman (approx 1.5-2 hours away) and Antalya (approx 3.5 hours away).

From the villa to the 'Old Town' |
We find the need for a hired car when we stay as we love to explore the area and the journey from the villa to the 'old town' by car or jeep takes 4 minutes or so. We have hired from 'Enes' as they give us a good rate, but there are others hiring in Kalkan. Enes is by the Pirat Hotel by the harbour. However, they will deliver & collect the car from the villa.
The average charge for an air contitioned car seems to be around £23 a day, jeeps are more expensive (about £30 a day) and need to be booked in advance.
You are able to hire on a British Driving Licence if you are over 21 for cars and 25 for jeeps. On certain days you are able to hire a minibus for 6-8 people for around £40 a day, but you need to book in advance to guarantee availability as they are needed for transfers to the airport mainly on Fridays & Mondays. Please see our car hire section for more information.

Parking is manageable in Kalkan. There is a car park in town as well as by the harbour. Parking on and by the harbour is available in the evening, but the harbour road and the streets of the old town are closed to traffic from 7pm. However, parking is allowed on either side of the hill down into Kalkan and along Kalamar Road which is not too far away.

Many of our guests prefer to take the water taxi from Villa Mahal (a 2-3 minute walk from our villa) or Mahal beach to the harbour in Kalkan for a minimal cost (free if you are at the Beach Clubs).
They run a regular shuttle service from 7am to 7pm. There are plenty of water taxis in Kalkan harbour for hire. Patara Club have their own shuttle service for guests using their facilities. The crossing takes around 6-8 minutes and is very pleasant. Getting in and out of the boat is managable with plenty of assistance if needed.
Others prefer the 'dolmus' bus from the 'main' road a 5 minute walk away. These are mini buses that run from Kalkan centre but you can stop one where and when they pass by, which is frequently and alight where you find most convenient for you. The fares are very reasonable and they run farther afield to places such as Kas and Patara Beach. They usually run from 7am to 7pm.

Taxis are another option as they are plentiful and very reasonable, around £2 one way from town to our villa (peaking at around £3.20 late evening). You can phone for a taxi to collect you at the villa, and they arrive within a matter of minutes after putting the phone down.
Most of our guests insist that the best way to plan the evening is to walk to the town to build up an appetite around 8 o'clock and take a very reasonably priced taxi back to the villa, usually around midnight to half past one in the morning. After negotiating the steep hill from the villa (a minute challenge!) the road is mainly downhill to the 'main' road. There is then a pleasant walk, parallel to the bay, down to the town. They all assure us that it takes 15-18 minutes in all. It will easily take that long to decide which superb restaurant you will eat at when you arrive.
