Advice
Sun & Heat
  • Kalkan can be very hot place in the summer, with temperatures in the 30s or even the 40s.
  • Use sunblock lotion regularly and wear a hat to avoid sunburn. It is a good idea to go indoors or stay in the shade during the midday sun (when the sun is right above).
  • Drink liquids regularly (at least every hour) in hot, dry weather (even if you don't feel thirsty) to avoid dehydration. Surprisingly, mild dehydration can bring on stomach upsets, dizziness and diarrhea which are often mistaken for food ailments. The cure is simple: remember to have a glass of water or a soft drink every hour!
Food
  • Whilst Kalkan is well known for it's high quality foods and cleanliness, illness due to food can occur, especially in hot weather.
  • Some of our guests suggest avoiding seafood (especially on a very hot day when foods have been left in the heat).
Drink
  • Drink bottled spring water instead of tap water. Yesil Kaya has a bottled water dispenser (but you may purchase bottled water in most shops).
  • Go easy on tea and coffee, which can contribute to dehydration and sleeplessness, and can aggravate digestive problems.
  • Take it easy on the alcohol (yes, it is very hard to resist that bottle of Efes). Alcohol increases the risk of dehydration and stomach upset.
Travel Insurance
  • Every member of your group need adequate travel insurance to cover both themselves and their possessions.
